Tommy Fotheringham Memorial Scholarship
Tommy Fotheringham, 23 years-old, was spending a semester as an international student at Kwansei Gakuin University in Osaka, Japan. While living his dream of immersion in the culture, politics, economics, history, food, and language of Japan, his life was tragically cut short.
In honor of Tommy Fotheringham and his enthusiasm for learning, the Fotheringham family has created a scholarship to help students at Seattle Central College realize their dreams. Tommy believed that working together as a community creates meaningful change. Tommy appreciated the diversity of races, ages, genders and socio-economic backgrounds at Seattle Central and the Capitol Hill neighborhood. He deplored intolerance and was an advocate for diversity, equity and inclusivity. On a broader scale, Tommy believed that the study of languages leads to better communication which in turn fosters understanding of foreign cultures.
Tommy’s scholarship will be his legacy. He may no longer be with us on this earth, but his values, beliefs, and love of life will go on through the students he helps.
In honor of Tommy's memory, please consider a donation. There is no amount too small nor too large to put into Tommy's Scholarship fund. Tommy had an almost magical ability to bring people together. It is our hope that his scholarship will do the same.
If you have any questions about the fund, please contact Jessica Norouzi, Interim Executive Director, Seattle Central Foundation, at 206-934-3828 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
